At Freie Universität Berlin I am in charge of Dutch linguistics. My research concentrates on comparative/contrastive linguistics and on the structure and the status of the Dutch language in relation to other (Germanic) languages. I am interested in the history of Dutch and in research on language change. In recent years I am also involved in research on language political and sociolinguistic aspects of the European linguistic area. Another focus is on the use of new media in Dutch studies. Furthermore I am interested in the history of Dutch studies as a discipline.
Information about the different research projects can be found under the header Research.

I am the coordinator of the B.A. Sprache & Gesellschaft (Language & society) and of the M.A. Sprachwissenschaft (Linguistics).

On these pages you will also find a list of talks and lectures that I gave and a list of my publications, many of which can be downloaded directly from this site.

This server also hosts some of my software projects, for example my concordance programme TextSTAT.

Finally: have a look at our blog with 'observations about the Dutch language'.
